My Birth Story

With how crazy my birth story was, I had lots of requests to share it. So here goes nothing lol!

For those of you who don't know, we have two beautiful boys and two angel babies. This pregnancy felt like a hundred years because of our most recent miscarriage last August and not too long after we found out we were expecting our sweet rainbow girl just before Christmas.

Fast forward to August 25, 2022 when I had my third weekly check up. No progress and I was so bummed. My doctor said if I didn’t go into labor myself I would be induced in exactly a week (September 1st). The week before I was 3cm and 80% effaced. I had about 3 close calls that I thought were labor. Then they just came to a stop. Prodromal labor is the worst and with my doctor being an hour away I didn’t want to leave my house too late.

Later that day around 7pm I noticed very intense Braxton hick contractions. It felt like one long tightening of my stomach and I wasn’t sure what to think. I was on edge with every little feeling but also trying not to get my hopes up. Basically the definition of the last weeks of pregnancy LOL. Once I started feeling contractions that I felt I could time, I started timing them on an app. They immediately started out at 3-4 min apart. Again, this happened so many times that week I wasn’t sure what to do. I warned my husband and he contacted his parents to see if this was real could they meet us with our kids and dogs. They happened to live in the same town as the hospital. I drank a bottle of water and then hopped in the shower to see if the contractions would subside. They didn’t so I got my last min things in order and told my husband it was go time.

By the time we got our kids out of bed, bags and dogs loaded, I was in a lot of pain. I called the hospital to let them know I was on my way and the contractions were about 3 mins maybe less apart. Started driving and realized we needed gas. Yup, this was just what we needed. It‘s a little blurry but I remember having contractions in the car and feeling like people were staring at me 😅.

We headed toward the hospital at 9:30pm. We could have went to the local hospital but I was worried they wouldn’t have anything on file and we’d have to start from square one. We decided to just chance it and go. I thought I had enough time. At about half way is when things took a turn. My husband called and spoke to a nurse. He told her he wanted them to get ready because we were more than likely going to have our baby as soon as we got there. I don’t think I understood just how far along in labor I actually was.

I do know that my contractions were about a min apart when we reached the half way point. When we were 10 min out my husband called and spoke to the nurse again. He wanted them ready at the ER for us. This is when I began screaming about how much pressure I was feeling. We were just about 2 miles from the hospital when I felt her crowning and in that moment I knew I was having my baby. In just about 2 contractions I reached down and pulled my sweet baby girl onto my chest. I had been in so much pain that the moment she was out I felt so much relief.

Within the time I pulled her onto my chest and we got to the hospital we were on a police chase because there were a total of 8 lights, and of course they were all red. My husband wanted the police to turn on their lights to help get us through the lights safely. Unfortunately the cop was waiting for backup because he didn’t understand the situation. Her cry was so subtle that my husband didn’t hear it and started to panic if she was breathing. I remained calm and tried to clear her airways by patting her back. I normally panic in scary situations but in this moment I just tried to be okay for the boys and my husband. I had one son crying with my husband (our 5 year old) and another ( our 3 year old) cheering me on about the baby. As we pulled into the ER there were a team of probably 20 people between medics, nurses, and various hospital staff.

The cop realizes immediately why we were there, a medic opens my door rushes to clamp her cord, cut it, then takes her away to warm her up. I’m put in a wheelchair and sent upstairs to labor and delivery so I can be with baby/deliver my placenta. My in laws met us at the ER where they joined in on the chaos and drove our car to their house with our boys/dogs. Our baby was healthy and as perfect as can be. Florence Anne 🖤

YOU GUYS! I still cannot believe I delivered my own baby in my car 😱. I hope enjoyed this wild and crazy story!
